Another Dash Win for Jax Hughes

Finally - we're back to racing action at Colorado National Speedway! Mother Nature was good enough to hold back the rains, but it was indeed a chilly night at the race track.

The Frames in Motion - Dacono Night started out well for Jax Hughes in the first practice session. The track was very fast and the car was decent. It was great having Kyle Patee in the pits helping us with the car. Thanks so much! As we tweaked a little through the next two practices, we were not able to get it back to that first run, but the track had slowed down a bit as everyone else's times showed, too. We were happy to be pitting with our great friend Joe Mares, Jr. and the whole gang in Kenton Gross' #51 Grand American Modified.

Qualifying was rough, Jax wound up tenth out of seventeen Super Stocks and missed the fast dash field. But, all was well as he came through the field in the regular dash and finished with a commanding lead. That's two firsts in the dashes in the first two races. Our hearts went out to Shelby Cortese in the 19 Super Stock. Her throttle stuck coming down the front chute and she went into the wall in turn one hard. She was fine, but the car is a little shorter than it used to be!

The track put a new main event line up process in place this week. The first three positions from the past race's finish start in positions 8, 9, and 10. That moved Jax up to 6th starting position. On the first lap, Robert Davey and Cody Vanderwal got together in the back stretch at the front of the field. The field scrambled to avoid getting collected and were pretty successful. Jax had lifted to avoid Davey who was right in front of him and took a hard shot in the back bumper from #3 Mike Cox, who in turn, took a hard shot in the back bumper from Levi Greenly, and so on... Davey was the only car to sustain any damage. Jax pulled off the track and into the pits to make sure there wasn't any real damage to the 51 car and rejoined the field at the rear for the restart.

The battle up front was good with #30 Jared Keener showing a strong car, and he along with with the 22 of Brian Yackey and the 43 of Cody Vanderwal were all putting on a good show. Jax worked back up through the field, and was running side by side with the 02 car of Darrell Smith for 9th when the rear end gears let go with just a few laps to go. He rolled off into the infield and became a spectator, finishing 13th.

Brian Yackey held on for his first win, but was disqualified after failing inspection in tech. That gave the win to Jax's "Blue Gator" buddy Mike Cox in the number 3. Levi Greenly made it in from Houston again for this week's race and brought it home in second place. Jared Keener, Cody Vanderwal, and Curtis Heldenbrand rounded out the top 5.
